NPFL: Khalifat end Enyimba’s unbeaten as Remo slip further
By Daily Sports Nigeria on October 13, 2025
Kun Khalifat FC shocked record champions Enyimba 1–0 in Owerri to end the People’s Elephant’s unbeaten start to the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League season, while Remo Stars slumped to another defeat at Katsina United to fall further down the standings, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
It was a dramatic weekend in the NPFL as matchday 8 delivered late goals, surprise results, and significant shifts across the table.
In Owerri, Ebuka Nwokorie’s curling free kick on 69 minutes handed Kun Khalifat a famous win over Enyimba, who played the entire second half with ten men after Henry Ndedi was sent off in first-half stoppage time.
The Owerri club, returning to their home ground at the Dan Anyiam Stadium for the first time this season, kept their nerve to secure only their second win of the campaign.
The defeat ended Enyimba’s seven-game unbeaten streak and dropped them to third with 13 points from eight matches.
Champions Remo Stars continued their poor run of form, losing 3–1 to Katsina United.
Elijah Akanni gave the hosts the lead on 31 minutes before Abubakar Ibrahim drew the champions level eight minutes later.
Uche Collins restored Katsina’s advantage from the penalty spot just after the hour mark, while Abdulrahman Garba sealed victory in added time after goalkeeper Sabitou failed to handle a free kick.
The result means the Sky Blue Stars have now lost three of their last four league matches, slipping to 12th with just ten points. Katsina United, meanwhile, climbed to sixth with 12 points.
In Umuahia, Abia Warriors maintained pressure on league leaders Nasarawa United with a convincing 2–0 win over El Kanemi Warriors.
Casmir Azubuike scored both goals within four minutes, striking on 24 and 28 minutes to seal their fifth win of the campaign.
The result keeps Abia Warriors second on 15 points, four behind Nasarawa United.
Table-toppers Nasarawa came from behind to defeat Enugu Rangers 2–1 in Lafia.
Wisdom Ebirim put Rangers ahead in the 19th minute, but Anas Yusuf equalised from the penalty spot on 32 minutes before John Joshua’s second-half strike ensured the hosts’ sixth win of the season.
The Solid Miners remain top with 19 points after eight matches, extending their winning streak to five.
At the Sani Abacha Stadium, Adams Mustapha’s stoppage-time strike rescued a point for Shooting Stars in a 1–1 draw against Kano Pillars.
Mustapha Jibrin had earlier put the hosts in front on nine minutes.
In Bauchi, Wikki Tourists and Kwara United played out a 1–1 draw. Jonathan Mairiga opened scoring for the hosts before Toheeb Gidado equalised just before half-time.
Kwara goalkeeper Nurudeen Badmos was the hero, saving Abdullahi Usman’s penalty and the rebound to preserve the point.
Plateau United eased pressure with a 2–0 win over Barau FC in Jos. Amietimi Enewarikpemi and Vincent Temitope scored within five minutes of each other early in the second half.
Warri Wolves and Niger Tornadoes shared the spoils in Ozoro. Israel Oladejo gave Wolves the lead on 18 minutes, but Terdoo Shemagande capitalised on a goalkeeper error to level for the visitors ten minutes later.
In Lagos, Folarin Temitope’s 10th-minute strike was enough to hand the Oga Boys a 1–0 win over Bendel Insurance at the Onikan Waterfront.
The Niger Delta derby between Rivers United and Bayelsa United was postponed to Monday morning due to heavy rainfall in Port Harcourt.
Nasarawa United continue to lead the pack on 19 points after eight matches, followed by Abia Warriors (15) and Enyimba (13). Rivers United, who have two games in hand, sit fourth with 12 points, level with Shooting Stars and Katsina United.
At the other end, Barau remain bottom with five points, while Bendel Insurance and Kun Khalifat hover just above them with six and eight points respectively.
Remo Stars’ slump sees them slide to the bottom half of the table for the second time this season in their title defence after being top in matchday three, though they still have a game in hand. Meanwhile, Nasarawa United have established themselves as early pacesetters in a campaign already proving full of twists.
