Okoye pleased with Lazio draw

Maduka Okoye says Udinese have reasons to be satisfied despite their dramatic 3-3 draw against Lazio in Serie A on Monday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Lazio staged a late fightback to earn a point in an entertaining encounter at the Stadio Olimpico.

Udinese opened the scoring through Kingsley Ehizibue, before Lazio responded after the break, with Luca Pellegrini ending his long goal drought to restore parity. Pedro then fired the hosts into the lead with a stunning long-range strike.

However, Udinese fought back brilliantly, scoring twice through Atta to lead 3-2 heading into stoppage time.

Just when Udinese looked set for victory, Daniel Maldini struck in the 95th minute to salvage a draw for Lazio.

Okoye, who has kept eight clean sheets this season, said the result should be viewed positively as Udinese remain 11th on the table with 44 points and close to securing their top-flight status with four matches left.

“Right now it feels like we’ve dropped two points, but I think we’ll realise that we earned an important point at Lazio. It’s not easy to do that. We’re disappointed at the moment, but we have to look forward,” Okoye told the club’s website.

“This is football. We were ahead and behind at different times. It’s a shame about the late goal we conceded, but it was good for the fans. We’ll look at where we can improve.”

Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic echoed the goalkeeper’s sentiments.

“You don’t often see six goals in a Serie A match. I think the fans enjoyed it,” he said.

“We made some mistakes but we have to move on and I’m optimistic about the last four games. I’m confident the players will have learnt the lesson. On the third goal we shouldn’t have let Lazio’s winger cross the ball. With a touch of luck, it could have been offside. [Juan] Arizala is young. Goals are down to lots of things and we’ll analyse everything that happened during the game.”
