Ideye targets World Cup squad

By Daily Sports on January 25, 2018

Brown Ideye is hoping that his loan move to Spanish club Malaga from Chinese club Tianjin Teda will help his expectation of battling for a place in the Eagles squad to Russia 2018.

According to the loan contract, Ideye is expected to be in Spain till the end of the season.

His contract with Tianjin Teda is till December 2019 after he moved to China last year from Olympiacos for a transfer fee of 12 million Euros.

Ideye was de-registered by his Chinese club last year over what he described as a misunderstanding and could have teamed up with another Spanish Alaves then but the transfer papers failed to beat the deadline.

He has told SCORENigeria he hopes to be back playing regularly so as to press for a place to Russia 2018 after he was overlooked by coach Gernot Rohr after he moved to China early last year.

The former U20 international striker was a last-minute replacement for injured Mikel Obi at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa but he did not get to kick a ball.

Ideye has previously played for Premier League club West Bromwich Albion, Dynamo Kiev and Olympiacos among other clubs.
