Ezenwa douses goalkeeping crisis against Cameroon

By Daily Sports on September 1, 2017

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa has said that the absence of goalkeepers Carl Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi from the Eagles line-up may be troubling, but his side holds the axe to defeat their Cameroonian counterpart.

Ezenwa said this while addressing the concern by some Nigerians about a possible goalkeeping crisis going into the 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon.

“I do not believe we have goalkeeping crisis in the Super Eagles though the talk has been everywhere.“

Yes, we have our first and second choice goalkeepers, Carl Ikeme and Daniel Akpeyi indisposed for the World Cup qualifiers against Cameroon that calls for concern but does not simply amount to crisis.

“The assignment on my shoulder is a blessing, call to duty and huge one and I hope to carry it out to the best of my ability.“

I will do my best not to concede any goal in the match against the Cameroonians, the defenders, everybody has promised to be at their best to protect me adequately.

“We know what is at stake and the importance to be at the World Cup and we will do our very best to ensure qualification,” he said.

Eagles will square up against the reigning African champions, the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon in Friday’s Group B World Cup first leg double header at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state.

Eagles still lead the pack in the group’s campaign with six points after two matches four behind neighbours and opponents, Cameroon. © supersport.com
