In an interview to ESPN, Roger Federer recalled his trip in Zambia in April earlier this year. The Swiss posted several photos of his experience, and he feels grateful to be able to speak about it.
'It was a great trip, a four or five-day trip. A very poor country where I'm just too happy to see that I am making a difference, and I was able to meet the President of the country, so this also opens doors for our local partner organizations on the ground. Seeing kids, that they are having quality education now, that they are going to school, or when they drop school they choose to come back again, and also the people who donate money, I can show them that I care as well. I love visiting Africa, my mum was brought up in South Africa, she lived there until 20-25 years old, we always went there on vacation when I was younger, so when I go there it just makes me happy and motivated to raise more money. I feel like I am in the beginning stages of my charitable work even though it's been almost 15 years now, so I look forward to seeing what's next to come. '
In 2011 Federer was the most respected person after the great Nelson Mandela, for his charity activity for Africa and Switzerland as well, owning his Foundation since 2003. Federer was in Etiophia, Zambia and South Africa during the years to see his Foundation progress. Reputation Institute was the study author, and the Chairman, Dr Charles Fombrun, said: 'The results of Reputation Institute's study confirm that people respect leaders that participate in philanthropic activities outside of their own celebrity. The public's top two on our list, Mandela and Federer, have emotional ties to South Africa, and donate both time and money to the betterment of the region and its people. They get praise for their efforts . (Tennis World USA)
