As the semifinals clash of the Aiteo Cup draws nearer, Sunshine Stars head coach Duke Udi has said they are not afraid of challenge that former Cup holders Akwa United will bring.
The Owena Waves will host the Promise Keepers in Saturday’s Aiteo Cup semifinals first leg clash at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium in Ijebu Ode.
The Akure Landlords overcame the opposition of the Nigeria National League (NNL) side and neighbours Osun United while the Uyo outfit dumped Katsina United Feeders to pave the way for the semis clash.
“We do not fear any side, Akwa United inclusive. They have gone past four stiff matches to get to the semis. We, too have equally gone past four previous opponents so both sides are evenly matched to go into the semifinals clash.
“Of course, if you want to be champions you must be ready to confront the best. We are damn prepared to face Akwa United.
“Akwa United are a good side. we are also a good side so the clash is outright the battle of the best sides and I strongly believe we will have a convincing head start in the two-legged encounter on Saturday in Ijebu Ode.
“We are ready for them and the clash is sure going to be entertaining and interesting as well,” Udi said.
The reverse fixture clash is expected to be held on Wednesday, October 4 at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The aggregate winners will be primed to square up against the winners of the clash between Niger Tornadoes and Cup holders, FC IfeanyiUbah in the final.© supersport.com
