Ugbade already feeling pressure of big league

By Daily Sports on December 1, 2016

Ugbade, the head coach of newly promoted Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side, Remo Stars FC, has said he is under intense pressure to perform in his first term in the elite division.

Ugbade, who coached Remo Stars to win promotion to the NPFL in September after finishing top of the Nigeria National League (NNL) Division B1, said he had always preferred playing beautiful football at his former sides, and insisted that he will apply same philosophy in the top flight with the Ogun-based club.

"I am under intense pressure to not only retain our NPFL status in our first season, but to also play a fine brand of football as previous sides I have handled have played, like the national Under-17, national Under-20 team and NPFL side, MFM FC. A lot of people are not congratulating me for our achievement, that is, gaining promotion to the elite division, instead they are asking me questions if we would play beautiful football and still perform optimally in the league. Anything less than what they know me for will be disappointing," Ugbade said.

On his team's preparation ahead of the new season and possible recruitment of experienced players to strike a balance in his squad, the former Nigerian international revealed his team are earnestly shaping up for the massive challenge they would face in the league and that it is important to get experienced players who can in a short time decode his football philosophy and style.

"We are preparing hard, we know it would be tough but we will give it our best shot. We have to get the right kind of players to beef up our team. The ones I want to gather, I mean players that despite their background and experience can easily retain information and translate my philosophy of football on the pitch, those are the kinds of players I would recruit," Ugbade revealed.
