NYG: Anambra Set To Screen Athletes For September Games

Anambra state athletes will start preparations ahead of the U15 National Youth Games scheduled for Asaba, Delta state in September. 

Emeka Obidimma, Technical Director of the State Sports Development Commission (ASDC), said on Friday that the  trial, screening and selection of athletes will hold from Aug. 27 to Aug. 28.

According to him, the selection exercise is for the 21 sporting events the state is expected to participate.

He said that selection exercise for sporting events such as Football, Scrabble, Athletics, Chess, Ncho will take place at the Awka Township Stadium while Boxing and Taekwondo would hold at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Obidimma further named Iyiagu Primary School as the centre for the selection of Wrestlers, Judo and Wrestling, while Nibo Town Hall will play host for Badminton.

Cosmila Hotel play host to Table Tennis; Bishop Crowther, Cricket while Marble Arch will be for Swimming and Our Lady’s School, Nnobi will host Rugby.

Similarly, Community Secondary School, Isuofia will host Handball, while Basketball, Kungfu, Karate, Weightlifting will be at Achebe Stadium, Onitsha and Washington Memorial Secondary School, Onitsha would host Volleyball and Beach Volleyball.

The Technical Director called on interested athletes to come with their NIN slip and passport warning that the festival is strictly for U-15 age bracket.

He also called on coaches and  parents who have good athletes within their limit to make them available in the selection process.
