The usual dig-dong that always characterize the eventual employment of a foreign technical adviser for the Super Eagles, by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is still coated with thick smoke as at the time of filing in this report.
Daily Sports latest findings revealed that the jigsaw is yet to clear as the apex football governing body in the country is still sitting on the fence how to go about the summary instruction from the Federal Government through the Sports Minister, Sunday Dare last week.
According to a telephone conversation between Daily Sports and a top member of the NFF technical and development committee, who does not want his name in print last night vividly informed that the situation on ground gets more confusion after the tensed directive, that all those recommended must be given a level playing ground after the NFF executive committee and its technical and development committee have already settled for Portuguese Jose Peseiro whose salary is affordable by the NFF.
The top level technical and development committee member further informed that; the other highly experienced first-rate coaches are so expensive that the NFF would not afford their salary price tags. The issue is so naught that it has put a wedge on the process of hiring a foreign technical hand for the Super Eagles sooner than later.
“This has put hold on the entire process. NFF said it can only afford to pay $55,000 to hire a foreign technical adviser. The Portuguese is what we can afford. One of the foreign hands penciled down for interview emphatically said that he would collect N104million per Month and so on. The possibility of going further would be if the Federal Government would assist by providing the short fall as contained in that statement by the Sports Minister which said that everyone recommended must be given a chance,” the usual credible insider narrated.
It was also learnt that the sponsor of NFF pulled out of the deal hence the salary of Gernot Rohr accumulated and so the body cannot dive into a bogus contract with any coach be him indigenous or foreign, never again, the source quoted NFF to have restated.
Meanwhile, a source within the Sports Ministry said that once a top-grade coach in the caliber of former French national team and PSG handler, Blanc is put forward as the one to be employed for the Eagles, Federal Government will fulfill her side of the deal.
It restated that the likes of Portuguese Jose Peseiro are like bringing back Gernot Rohr. He has no pedigree to handle a team like the Super Eagles. Peseiro’s capacity as his Curriculum Vitae already in the public domain revealed, is too weak for Nigeria’s flagship side. The top-level Sports Ministry official insists that where the whole issue lies is, the resolve by NFF executive committee and its technical and development to employ Peseiro and so only them can say the kind of pact they reached on tax payers’ money which would be used to pay him.
“The Sports Minister wants a clean sweep from the past where the NFF kept going around the vicious circle of employing a less qualified foreign coach for the Eagles which has always backfired. We want to set the tone for the total turnaround of the Super Eagles team to reach its full potentials. No more, no less. That must be accomplished despite the hide and seek by the NFF bigwigs. However, the technical committee is like running errands for them. Nigerians are keenly and closely watching as events unfold too,” the highly dependable source from the Sports Ministry emphatically vowed.
