Messi’s return to Barcelona possible – Father

By Daily Sports Nigeria on June 5, 2023

Lionel Messi’s father, Jorge, has said his son would love to return to Barcelona this summer.

Jorge disclosed this to newsmen after he reportedly met with Barcelona president Joan Laporta on Monday morning.

While denying having a meeting with Laporta, he said he also wished the Argentine captain returned to the Spanish club.

He said, “Of course, he [Messi] would love to return to Barcelona. I would like it too. We will see.”

Asked if he had discussed with Laporta the possibility of Barcelona financing his son’s return to the club, Jorge said, “We spoke the other day, but there’s nothing concrete.”

Barca is said to be awaiting approval from LaLiga this week regarding their financial plans ahead of the transfer window while also beaming with the prospects of re-signing Messi.

This is as Barca coach Xavi Hernandez said that Messi would make a decision regarding his future club this week and that “the doors are open” for his return.

35-year-old Messi is considering offers as he leaves Paris Saint-Germain, as a free agent after two seasons with the French champions.
