Victor Moses put in an impressive performance to help Spartak Moscow do the double over Napoli in the Europa League this season.
Spartak Moscow had beaten Napoli at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium in the first leg of their Group stage encounter. The People’s Team have now repeated the same feat at the Otkritie Arena, thanks to the performance of their Nigerian import.
Spartak got off to a dream start as Aleksandr Sobolev put them ahead from the penalty spot after just three minutes of action. It got better for the home side as Moses put in a cross in the 28th minute for Sobolev to head in his second and double Spartak’s advantage.
The former Super Eagles star has been one of Spartak’s best players in the Europa League this season, having recorded four assists and one goal. He was yet again brilliant on Wednesday, firing two shots on target and making one key pass. His assist capped off a brilliant performance before he was taken off in the 83rd minute.
Meanwhile, Napoli did pull one back through Eljif Elmas in the 64th minute. The Neapolitans, who were missing star striker Victor Osimhen due to a facial injury, had a couple of chances to score the equaliser but could not convert. The result lifts Spartak to the top of Group C with seven points, with Napoli in second place on the same number of points.
However, Leicester City could take control of the group if they beat Legia Warsaw in the other game on Thursday night. (Soccernet)
