EXCLUSIVE: Super Eagles reject AFCON bonus

By DailySports Nigeria on December 27, 2025

SCORENigeria can authoritatively report today that all is not well with the Super Eagles at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after they outrightly rejected a first round qualifying bonus proposed to them.

SCORENigeria learnt that top officials met with the team in Fes, Morocco, just before their opening Group C game against Tanzania and offered that each player will receive $15,000 when the Super Eagles reach the knockout round of 16 of the 2025 AFCON.

The players rejected this amount as being “too small” and asked that they be paid more especially as CAF have increased by as much as 50% the prize money for this year’s competition.

“Discussions over the bonus broke down after the players rejected the $15,000 tabled before them,” an official informed SCORENigeria

“As result, nothing was agreed in the event the Super Eagles advance to subsequent rounds of the tournament.

“This can only be a recipe for more money problems in the team going forward.”

The champions of the 2025 AFCON will pocket $10 million, an improvement on the seven million dollars hosts Cote d’Ivoire received when they beat Nigeria 2-1 in February 2024 to be crowned continental champions for a third time.
