BREAKING NEWS: Real Madrid are 2016 European Champions League winners!

Real Madrid minutes ago emerged winners of the 2016 edition of the European Champions League after the penalty shootout that climaxed the grueling final showdown against Atletico Madrid at the San Siro Stadium in Italy.

Both Madrid sides battled to a one-all draw at full time, with the 30 minutes extra time failing to produce a winner, thus necessitating penalty shootout to decide the winner. 

Real Madrid drew the first blood as early as the 15th minute Atletico Madrid courtesy of Sergio Ramos. Toni Kroos had whipped in a free-kick from deep, Gareth Bale flicked it on with his head, and Ramos turned it home from close range.

The half belonged to underdogs Atletico Madrid, who dominated play and were rewarded for their efforts in the 79th minute when half-time substitute Yannick Carrasco turned home Juanfran’s cross from close range.

In the ensuing penalty shootout, Real Madrid won 5-4 after Juanfran lost his kick, with Ronaldo burying his kick to fetch real their 11th UCL crown.
