Compel clubs to release contract document to players, NANPF tells NNL

National Association of Nigerian professional Footballers (NANPF) has urged the Nigerian National League (NNL) management to compel the forty clubs registered to play in the 2017/18 season to release copies of contract signed by players with their respective clubs to them.

Speaking to www.bsnsports.com.ng yesterday in Abuja, the General Secretary of the Players Union, comrade Austin Popo, said following ugly experience from the refusal of most clubs in the NPFL to release copies of players contract to players, resulting in contractual instability in the league, the Union strongly advice the NNL to compel clubs to sign under takings with the league body to ensure the release of copies of players contract to them before the commencement of the season.

According to Popo, “The motive behind the move is to make our league better for the main actors (the players) are at the receiving end of the devilish act , also most importantly go in line with  global practice and standard as contained in various Football Rules of FIFA and National laws.

“The Players’ Union wants the era of exchanging the players contract documents for their salaries and allowances arrears by their clubs to be a thing of the past.

“The players have suffered enough in the hand of club administrators and it must be discouraged and any club caught in the act should be sanctioned.”

Speaking further the Union scribe emphasised the importance of kick-starting discussion with the NNL on the signing of a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) with the league to formalise relations with the body in terms, governance, development and players welfare as contained in the letter written to the NNL over the week.
