Osimhen must stop diving – Mourinho

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 31, 2023

Roma coach Jose Mourinho has likened Victor Osimhen to Didier Drogba but warns that the Nigerian striker must stop diving, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The Nigerian international extended his tally to 14 Serie A goals this season when he expertly controlled Kvicha Kvaratskhelia’s cross with his chest, then juggled it on his right thigh before smashing in the right-foot volley.

His 14-goal tally matched his overall record of last season.

“I told him that he scored a wonderful goal and needs to stop diving so much,” Mourinho said after the game.

“His goal was fantastic, he did the same thing when we met earlier this season, so he’s a fantastic player. But he mustn’t dive.

The former Tottenham and Chelsea also revealed that he would sign him if I was at a club with a lot of money.

“If Victor changes, then OK. I’d buy him if I was at a club with a lot of money,” he continued.

“However, if he does go to England one day, he needs to change, because in Italy they put up with this sort of behaviour, whereas in the Premier League, they’d come down hard on him.”

Napoli, who are gunning for a third Scudetto 33 years after their last triumph, are away to Spezia in their next Serie A game on Sunday.
