LMC hands Wikki Tourists three-match closed door sanction

Following investigation into the incidents that happened in the Matchday 33 fixture between Wikki Tourists and Rangers International, the League Management Company LMC) has ordered Wikki to play three games behind closed doors in addition to paying a fine of N2.250 million for various violations of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) Framework and Rules.

Two of the three games would however be served should there be a recurrence of the incident before the end of the season. Furthermore, the club will also pay the full cost for the repair of the damaged Rangers bus.

The club was charged for violations of Rules B13.18, B13.52, C11 and C1 covering breaches of field encroachment by supporters, failure to ensure adequate security, assault of match officials and conduct likely to bring the league to disrepute.

For the encroachment of the supporters on to the field of play and throwing of objects, Wikki were fined N1m and N750,000 for failure to ensure adequate security.

Pursuant to rules C12, the club was also ordered to pay compensation of N250,000 to each of the match officials attacked and injured by the supporters.

The LMC noted however that Wikki Tourists management has fully cooperated with investigations leading to the apprehension and ongoing prosecution by the police, of some of the alleged culprits.
