Abia Warriors coach, Abdullahi Biffo has said his team needed the points more than title chasers Rivers United in Sunday’s showdown in Port Harcourt.
The Umuahia club gave themselves a massive boost to escape relegation when they defeated local rivals Enyimba in a rescheduled game in midweek.
They are now 14th on the table with 44 points, while Rivers United are just a point behind league leaders Rangers.
“We need the match more than they (Rivers United) do," said Biffo, who was hired recently to ensure Abia Warriors stay up.
"Rivers united are chasing the title, we are trying to escape the drop to a lower league. Meaning we have many things to play for.
“It is their home ground, but they should expect a tough and difficult match come Sunday.
"We have prepared for the antics of their fans and as well as for the game itself."
He added: “We are on a four-match unbeaten run – we played a goalless draw in Lagos with MFM before we came home to play 1-1 with FC IfeanyiUbah, then we beat Nasarawa United 2-1 and on Wednesday we defeated our neighbours Enyimba 3-1.
‘This record is a major boast going into this epic clash against Rivers United.
"I am targeting six matches unbeaten run to end the season in a decent position.” (mtnfootball.com)
