Champions Enugu Rangers have climbed away from the relegation zone after they defeated troubled Rivers United 2-1 Monday in a rescheduled NPFL game in Enugu.

The original fixture was shifted from Sunday after it was rained off with scores at 0-0 after 20 minutes.

Rangers are now 13th on the table with 42 points from 32 matches, while Rivers are still sucked in the drop zone in 16th place with 41 points and have a game in hand.

New Rangers coach Sylvester Okpala was sent off in his first match in charge for dissent in the 29th minute.

Ifeanyi George scored brace for Rangers, hitting target in the 28th and 38th minutes, before Emeka Ogbugh pulled a goal back for Rivers in the 75th minute.
