NANPF ends council meeting in Benin, insists on players’ welfare

The post harmonization National Administrative Council (NAC) meeting of the National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) ended its one-day meeting held July 1 in Benin City with far reaching decisions.

A communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, indicated that, the NAC in session commended the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation and the League Management Company for their role in facilitating the successful harmonisation of the Nigeria Players Union into one big, stronger and more united players body

Comrade Edema Fuludu (Chairman), Shola Otis, Danladi Musa, Austin PopoThe communiqué, signed by Comrade Edema Fuludu (Chairman), Shola Otis, Danladi Musa, Austin Popo, also declared that “The NAC in session expressed great joy and delight in the harmonisation of the Players Union and commend leadership of all parties for their role and commitment in ensuring the success of the process and appeal to all members of the union for tolerance and patience to see the process matured to fruition.”

It also commended the leadership of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) ably represented by its President Comrade Bobboi Bala Kaigama for its supportive role in the pursuit of the Union’s goals, while requesting the Congress for greater support in ensuring that players’ rights and interest are respected and protected

“The NAC in session in the spirit of the harmonisation process and fair play confirmed the following persons as additional members of NAC for ratification by the National Executive Council (NEC): Comrade Shola Otis – AGS (Community Football development), Comrade Keneth Nwaomucha – Public Relations Officer, Comrade Patrick Macaulay, Comrade Enebeli Mathias, and Comrade Clement Temile – Director of Projects and Facilities.“

The NAC in session agreed that hence forth, that only the President of the Union can discuss, communicate or direct any member or official of the union on official matters on behalf of the union with leadership of Football authorities, especially with the NFF and LMC.

“The NAC in session requested the President and the 1st Vice President of the union to facilitate an enlarged meeting of players in Lagos to inform and educate them of the workings of the post harmonisation process of the union to deepen further the understanding of members of the process that has already commenced.“

The NAC in session expressed dissatisfaction over the neglect of players’ welfare by football authorities both at national and club levels and wants the NFF and LMC to intervene and compelled 3SC FC to pay late Izu Joseph entitlements without further delay and in a related development appeal to the NFF to settled the outstanding allowance of former National under 20 team member late Uzama Douglas“

The NAC in session reaffirm the Union's resolve to seek justice at the industrial court to enforce the players’ status and arbitration decisions of debts owed players and coaches if  the Union do not get any positive and timely response from its petition to FIFA, since it is employment related Issue.

“The NAC in session approved the commencement of discussion with Sigma Pension to fast track the implementation of the proposed Nigeria Players Union Pension Scheme without further delay.“

The NAC in session confirmed the setting up of the following committees: Finance Committee, Organising Committee, Players welfare monitoring and compliance committee, Facilities and Projects Committee, Disciplinary committee, Marketing Committee.
