In the latest update from statistics website, Whoscored, Nigeria international Victor Boniface has been ranked joint second best striker in Europe, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Boniface joined Bayer Leverkusen for €20m from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise last transfer window but has blossomed into one of the most dreaded strikers in Europe.
His impressive tally of seven goals and two assists in seven Bundesliga games have seen him pick up the league’s Player of The Month and Rookie of The Month awards for August, while also earning nominations for best player of the month in September.
As per the stats released in the middle of September, the Nigerian also holds the record for the most shots in the Bundesliga this season.
On only the second match-day alone, against Monchengladbach, he fired 11 attempts on Jonas Omlin’s goal, as many as Harry Kane managed across match days 1 and 2.
Boniface’s sheer hard work has left a great impression too; his 54 challenges are the highest in the Bundesliga, while his fierce pressing has helped him win 43 per cent of them.
The 22-year-old striker has been instrumental to Die Werkself’s impressive start to the 2023/24 season as they currently sit top of the Bundesliga table after seven match days.
Leverkusen have scored the most goals in the league (23) and have conceded the least number of goals as well (six), thus remaining rock solid at both ends of the pitch.
It is, therefore, not surprising that Boniface, in the rankings released by Whoscored, has the same number of points (8.3) with Real Madrid’s Jude Bellingham and Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane to occupy the second position.
Vfb Stuttgart striker, Sehrou Guirassy, occupies the number one spot without question.
The Guinean has taken the Bundesliga by storm, leading the scorers chart with 13 goals from just seven games, averaging almost two goals per game.
It is a new record for the 27-year-old striker as well, having never scored more than 11 goals in a league campaign throughout his career.
Now, he has reached new heights, with the season only just starting.
Also, Bellingham has enjoyed a great start to life with Real Madrid, with the Birmingham-born striker scoring eight goals in eight league games.
With six goals from seven matches, Sane shares the same points with Bellingham and Boniface.
In fifth position is Inter’s Lautaro Martinez, who has a rating of 8.0 despite netting 10 goals and registering an assist from eight games.
Jonas Hoffmann, Matías Soulé Malvano, Harry Kane, James Maddison and Kylian Mbappé complete the list of the Top 10 highest-rated players in Europe this season.
Away from Europe, Boniface will hope to replicate his club’s impressive form for Nigeria when they take on Saudi Arabia and Mozambique during the international break.
