Mikel backs Chelsea to be champions again

By Daily Sports on December 2, 2016

Nigeria captain Mikel Obi has backed Chelsea to be Premier League champions again.

Chelsea are currently top of the table with 31 points from 13 matches.

“The team are playing well and the manager knows exactly what he wants and how he wants them to play. I hope at the end of the season, we will be champions again,” said Mikel, who has won 10 major honours with ‘The Blues’ since he joined up in 2006.

The Nigeria midfielder with captain John Terry are the longest serving players at Stamford Bridge, but he has yet to play an official game under manager Antonio Conte this season and his contract will be up next year.

“At the moment, I’m not needed with the way the team are going, but I will continue to be professional,” he said with a chuckle.

"I am ready to help the team when I am called upon, wait for your time.

“Being in the same team for 10, almost 11 years, it’s amazing. I still enjoy coming to training, it's home away from home. I enjoy being in this football club.”

Speculations have been rife over the future of Mikel – from China to Valencia – but this is expected to be clearer when the January transfer window reopens. (mtnfootball.com)
