Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick as Real Madrid beat Atletico Madrid 3-0 at the Vicente Calderon on Saturday evening to move four points clear at the top of La Liga.
Jan Oblak produced a stunning diving save to deny Ronaldo in the 12th minute, but Real did take the lead in the 23rd through their talisman. The visitors were awarded a free kick little more than 20 yards from goal, and Ronaldo saw his effort deflect off Raphael Varane and give goalkeeper Jan Oblak no chance.
Yannick Carrasco came within inches of levelling three minutes after half-time, but his long-range effort dipped just over the bar. Atletico were a different side, playing with much more urgency and pinning Zinedine Zidane’s side back but they could not find an equaliser.
Isco forced a superb save from Oblak when his effort from the edge of the area seemed destined for the bottom corner.
Real were then awarded a 71st-minute penalty when Savic mis-kicked a clearance and brought down Ronaldo inside the area, and the Portuguese made no mistake in sending Oblak the wrong way.
Ronaldo completed his hat trick six minutes later with a simple finish after being set up by Gareth Bale. (NAN)
