Chelsea’s Mikel dismisses injury claims

Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel has poured cold water on speculation that he is unfit to feature in the upcoming 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifier against Zambia.

The Super Eagles’ skipper is yet to play for Antonio Conte’s Blues this season – which has fuelled assumption that he is nursing an injury and would not be available to face Wedson Nyirenda’s side in Ndola.

And the 58 times capped international has laughed off claims that he won't be suitable for cracker on October 9.

“I don’t know where the story about my being injured came from. I have no injury,” Mikel told the NFF website.

“All the other players and myself are fit and ready and we are determined to start the World Cup race on a winning note.”

Meanwhile, technical adviser Gernot Rohr and his assistants [Jean Luc and Nabil Trabelsi] on in Abuja on Sunday as preparations kicked off for the crucial tie.

Players are expected in camp as from Monday with training sessions scheduled for morning and evening each day before departure to Ndola by chartered flight on Friday.

The three-time African kings must negotiate their way past Cameroon, Algeria and Zambia to qualify for the 2018 Fifa World Cup Russia.(goal.com)
