Boxing fans getting restless over Wilder vs Joshua talks

By Daily Sports on May 23, 2018

Boxing fans are getting restless over the talks between Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua.

After the latter’s victory over Joseph Parker back in March, there was genuine hope that the two top dogs in the heavyweight division would finally meet face-to-face in 2018.

Joshua even called out Wilder in the ring after beating Parker, with the American confirming on a number of occasions that he is desperate to fight the Brit.

Last month, the Bronze Bomber and his team declared they were ready to match the $50m fee Joshua wanted for the fight, but talks with AJ and Eddie Hearn really haven't progressed since.

In fact, a report from World Boxing News on Monday stated that Hearn had been in progressive talks with Alexander Povetkin and his team instead, with a September fight vs the Russian now a distinct possibility.

While that would be a big test for Joshua, it’s simply not the fight the fans want.

And it seems Wilder himself has caught whiff of the stall in negotiations, because the Bronze Bomber fired some serious shots at Joshua and his team on Twitter.

There hasn’t been much social media ‘beef’ between the pair, but this could be the start of something.

Wilder’s tweets:

“You see people talk the “G D” talk but are not prepared to walk thru the valley of the shadow of Death. To come and get it. He said he once went to hell and back and he enjoyed it.

“Ni, Either the devil wasn’t there or

“HE LYIN.”

“So, “You can go to hell and back” and enjoy it, but can’t come and get this money in dat bag to store it. Now these are Just my thoughts maybe yours too, but shid, you can tag him. #ImEating’.”

While the tweets aren’t the easiest to understand, it’s pretty clear that Wilder is not too happy with Joshua backtracking on his past comments about the $50m offer.

The Watford-born fighter is now demanding that Wilder comes to the UK to meet him in the ring.

During a Q&A with Capital FM's Polly James in Cardiff, AJ said: “This is the situation I’m thinking.

“So with this Las Vegas talk, I owe it to everyone in Great Britain that has been supporting me to do my best to get this fight in the UK, in my opinion, that’s number one.”

These were new demands and this sudden change of heart from Joshua after his initial offer to Wilder was met will certainly raise suspicions in the boxing community. (www.givemesports.com)
