Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has been nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month award for March following a string of influential performances that underlined his growing importance at Craven Cottage, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Often described as one of the most underrated midfielders in the English top flight, Iwobi’s nomination reflects a shift in perception after he delivered consistent displays in a deeper role, helping Fulham strengthen their push for European qualification.
The 27-year-old featured in all four of Fulham’s league matches during the month, recording two wins, one draw and one defeat, while contributing a goal. Beyond the numbers, his composure in possession, tactical intelligence and ability to link play stood out as key components in Fulham’s midfield structure.
Iwobi’s highlight moment came at the start of March when he scored a superb long-range effort in a win against Tottenham Hotspur, striking the ball with precision using his instep to find the far corner. The goal set the tone for a month in which he consistently dictated tempo and provided balance between defence and attack.
However, the race for the award remains highly competitive. Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is among the leading contenders after registering six goal involvements in four matches, while Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon impressed with three goals in as many appearances.
Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White and Danny Welbeck of Brighton also made strong cases with three goals each, while James Garner and Arsenal keeper David Raya contributed significantly to their teams’ performances during the month.
Iwobi, 29, is the Nigerian with the most appearances in the EPL, having played 316 games across spells at Arsenal, Everton and Fulham.
