W’Cup qualifier: Yellow Greens lose final warm-up game
By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 25, 2025
Nigeria’s senior male cricket team, the Yellow Greens, wrapped up their warm-up games for the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier against Zimbabwe on Wednesday with a 47-run defeat, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Zimbabwe batted first in the game and posted 177 runs for the loss of five wickets in 20 overs, while Nigeria faltered in their chase, managing 130 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs.
It was the team’s second defeat in as many games, but they bowed to the Zimbabweans with some flashes of excellence with the ball and the bat.
Vincent Adewoye got the highest number of runs in the game, knocking 40 off 29 balls, including three fours and sixes each.
On the ball, Peter Aho also got two wickets in two overs, conceding 12 runs.
After the completion of the warm-up games, the team will begin their World Cup qualifier campaign against Malawi on Friday at the Takashinga Cricket Club, Harare.
Their other Group A fixtures will be against Namibia on Sunday and Kenya on Tuesday.
Group B has Uganda, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, and Botswana.
The top two teams in each group will play the semi-finals.
Led by former Kenya star Steve Tikolo, the Nigerian team camped in Lagos since the end of their campaign at the Pearl of Africa tourney in Uganda in July.
The Yellow Greens came top of the Africa qualifier Group B last year to book their spot in the final round, which will produce two other teams from Africa.
Fifteen countries, including South Africa, have already booked their spots at the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka between February and March 2026.
