Rodgers hails fit Iheanacho

By Daily Sports Nigeria on September 23, 2025

Head coach of Celtic football club, Brendan Rodgers, has acknowledged the fitness level of Nigerian striker Kelechi Iheanacho, following his recent upturn in form, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

The former Leicester City forward, who joined the reigning Scottish Premier League champions this summer following the termination of his contract at Spanish side Sevilla, made it onto manager Brendan Rodgers’ starting XI for their League Cup quarter-final tie away at Partick Thistle on Sunday.

He featured for 59 minutes for the Bhoys, and registered an assist in the 46th minute as Celtic ran out 4-0 winners. The result saw the 1967 European champions set up a mouthwatering semi-final tie against perennial archrivals, Glasgow Rangers, at Hampden Park in November.

Iheanacho was subsequently replaced by Japan international Daizen Maeda, with Rodgers expressing his delight at the outcome. According to media outlet, Foot Africa, Rodgers praised his fitness, calling him “one of the leanest players in the squad” despite a lack of game time before arriving in Glasgow.

The Super Eagles attacker has now made two goal contributions in his last two outings, having also netted a late penalty against Kilmarnock on his debut. He will be looking to build on his newfound form and maintain momentum, as Celtic turn their attention to their UEFA Europa League assignment in midweek.
