Golf: Shaibu’s wife wins back-to-back BCG ladies tourney

The wife of the immediate past Deputy Governor of Edo State, Maryann Philip-Shaibu during the weekend was crowned the Queen of the Green for the 2024/2025 season after winning the Benin Club Golf ladies tournament for a second consecutive year.

Mrs Philip-Shaibu is the first person in the history of Benin Club Golf section to have won back-to-back victory as the ladies overall match play champion of Benin Golf Club – 2023/2024 and 2024/2025.

The former deputy governor, Shaibu, reacting to his wife’s victory said, “In the game of life and on the greens, you continue to inspire and conquer with grace, determination, and excellence.

“With this incredible feat, you have etched your name in history as the first lady in the Benin Club Golf Section, Ladies Division to win the singles match play title back-to-back.”

Shaibu who is also a golfer also added, “Your unwavering passion for the sport, your resilience, and your commitment to excellence continue to set you apart.”

He also acknowledged other players in the tournament.

“Congratulations also to Mrs Dorothy Chukwu for an outstanding performance and for making it to the final. True competition brings out the best in champions, and your remarkable efforts have added to the excitement and prestige of this tournament.”
