Nigeria and Atalanta forward Ademola Lookman has emerged as the highest-rated player in the Italian Serie A so far this season, surpassing some of the biggest names in the league.
With 29 rounds of matches played in Italy’s top flight, Lookman leads the WhoScored performance charts with an impressive rating of 7.37.
His stellar performances have placed him above Inter Milan’s in-form duo of Marcus Thuram and Lautaro Martínez, as well as other standout stars from Juventus, AC Milan, and AS Roma.
Despite featuring in just 23 games this season, Lookman’s consistency has been unmatched. He has registered 13 goals and five assists while averaging 2.1 key passes per game; more than any other player in the division.
Inter Milan’s Thuram, who has netted 13 goals and provided four assists, follows closely behind Lookman with a rating of 7.29. Martínez, also of Inter Milan, shares third place with Atalanta’s Mateo Retegui, the league’s top scorer with 22 goals, both rated at 7.22.
Inter Milan’s Hakan Çalhanoğlu (7.19) rounds out the top five, while Como’s Nico Paz (7.18), Lazio’s Mattia Zaccagni (7.17), AS Roma’s Alexis Saelemaekers (7.11), AC Milan’s Rafael Leão (7.11), and Fiorentina’s Moise Kean (7.09) complete the top 10.
Since joining Atalanta from RB Leipzig in August 2022, Lookman has become one of Serie A’s most consistent performers. He has now featured in 85 league matches, scoring 37 goals and providing 18 assists.
His time in Italy has been marked by both personal and team success. While he finished as a Coppa Italia runner-up early in his stint, he played a key role in Atalanta’s historic UEFA Europa League triumph last season where they secured the club’s first-ever European title.
On the international stage, Lookman has also made waves as he played a crucial role in Nigeria’s run to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations final.
His performances earned him the prestigious CAF African Player of the Year award, making him the sixth Nigerian to claim the honour. He also became the first player to win the award after switching national teams from England to Nigeria.
