Abia Govt hails Nigeria Olympic Committee over staging an admin course in Umuahia

Abia State Commissioner for Sports, Mr Nwobilo Ananaba has praised the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) for staging an administrstion course in Umuahia.

''This is the first ever time that Abia has so been chosen to host an important programme of the Committee,'' Mr Ananaba made the remark during the opening ceremonies of the two-day course in the Abia capital.

No fewer than 30 participants drawn from various parts of the country took part in the exercise.

This interesting coming after Nigeria just came back from the last Olympic Games without a medal. 

''This course could have come a better time than now that we need to have a fresh start in our preparation for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic preparations.

We value the course as it would offer the participants opportunity to begin a search for hidden talents to make our new teams in various sports to represent the country at future Games.

Thank You NOC. We want to host more of courses to assist to reposition our adminitrationn of sports. 

The Director of Sports, George Obioma said he was elated they have at last been remembered. 

Abia State is home of many sports particularly football Enyimba FC of Aba) boxing, and handball (Valiants Handball Club of Umuahia an offshoot of Grasshoppers of Owerri) in the early days of the state. 

 Dr Easter Aluko, a retired Secretary in the defunct Ministry of Development, Emma Nweri, Senior bManager in the NOC, Dr Kweku Tando, a Former Director Sports, Lagos state, Dr Akin Amazon, retired Director of medical services, Ministry of Sports, prof. Clement Fasan were among resource persons at the course. 

Mrs. Deborah Chiobi was an under-Secretary at the NOC that facilitated the course. The course ran from Nov. 13 to Nov. 15 in Umuahia.
