Following another unimpressive performance against Mozambique in their second friendly game of the international break, fans have called for the removal of Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho from the national team, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Nigeria laboured to a hard-fought 3-2 win against Mozambique at the Estadio Municipal De Albufeira Portimao in Portugal to break their 15-game winless jinx in friendly matches.
While fans are yet to get over his comical display against Saudi Arabia, where he turned a harmless free-kick into his own net to hand the Golden Falcons the lead in their friendly game on Friday, Uzoho once again made a mess of another chance handed him by Jose Peseiro, who continues to keep faith in the 24-year-old goalkeeper.
Mozambique had only three shots on target with two of the shots resulting in goals. But the highlight of the game was the first goal of the game scored by the Mambas as Uzoho wobbled while Geny Catamo coolly slotted in from close range.
Uzoho conceded another goal from a setpiece, making it the third in two games, after he was beaten to his near post by Faisal Bangal’s freekick.
The goalkeeper reacted late as the shot found its way through the wall and into the net.
Reacting to the update of the game on the official Super Eagles X handle, fans lashed out at the goalkeeper and asked for his removal from the squad.
Dayo wrote, “Uzoho’s final game for Nigeria. Thank you for the memories Francis. Good luck with club football.”
Ichechime Oke-Chinda added, “Conceding three goals from freekicks in just four days is criminal. Uzoho has to go.”
“Please can’t the coach find a replacement for Uzoho? If we make this guy our first choice come January, I’m sorry for the Super Eagles, he will send them packing from the group stage,” Sammy stated.
Abu Yusroh wrote, “Uzoho should never be called up to Super Eagles camp again.”
External added, “The same people that are running this country are the ones who have run Nigeria football aground. Why keep mediocrity in the team when we can make use of better players?
“You can’t tell me otherwise, Uzoho does not qualify for a ball boy in this team, talk more goalkeeper.”
A dejected NanleSurf said, “Uzoho is the worst keeper I have seen in a Nigerian jersey, shameless that ball strolled to the net.”
UnitedAgainstGlazers added, “As a United fan and a Nigerian, having to watch Uzoho and Onana gives me migraine and puts me into depression.”
Emmy Cule questioned Uzoho’s continuous invitation to the Eagles.
He wrote, “I didn’t tune in because of Uzoho, after that shameful goal he conceded against KSA. The NFF and the coaching staff can’t tell me a guy who sits on the bench regularly is the best man to represent over 200 million Nigerians.”
Agoziem Midas tweeted, “You honestly cannot tell me this is the only human male of Nigerian descent that plays football as a goalkeeper professionally.”
Lion Extra Ordinary identifies Uzoho as the weakest link in the Eagles squad.
He wrote, “Uzoho is not a good goalkeeper, no matter how much we try to push it. This is the second game in a row that he’s beaten from a set piece. Weak link…”
