Stakeholders have congratulated new Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, following his appointment on Wednesday, tasking him to focus more on grassroots development in the country.

Enoh was announced as the country’s 36th sports minister on Wednesday by President Bola Tinubu.

Speaking after his announcement, the Director-General, National Institute for Sports, Olawale Moronkola, said Enoh was the right choice for the development of sports in the country.

“I commend President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s choice of Senator John Enoh as the new Minister of Sports Development,” Moronkola said.

“This shows that the President places high premium on sports in the country. I believe the new Minister of Sports Development will continue with the legacy left behind by his predecessor (Sunday Dare). He has a lot to take away from the former minister since government is a continuum.

“We are confident that the new minister will bring his vast experience in both public and private businesses to bear on the ministry.

Also applauding Enoh’s appointment, the Football Club Owners Association of Nigeria, urged him to pay attention to football.

Speaking on behalf of the body, its chairman, Okey Kpalukwu, said, “On behalf of the Football Club Owners Association of Nigeria, I want to congratulate the new Minister of Sports Development, Senator John Enoh, and assure him of our support in this huge assignment of taking the game to the next level.

“It’s a tough assignment, no doubt, but from what I’ve heard and in my interaction with other members, it’s obvious that what he needs to succeed is our support and to have the right people around him”, stated the Rivers United of Port Harcourt General Manager.

“There’s no denying the fact that the new Minister of Sports Development should be encouraged to pay serious attention to the NPFL because if it’s well run or managed, it will reflect positively on our country’s football both on the continent and on the national teams.”

Also, the Chairman, House Committee on Sports Ekene Adams, said Enoh’s vast experience would help sports to grow.
