A sports fiesta to kick-start the 60th birthday celebration of the General Overseer of Koinonia International Ministries (KIM), Rev (Dr.) Joseph Omaegbu, began around noon on Tuesday at Aggah Community in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.

A statement by the Director of Media of KIM, Evangelist Juliet Onyeocha, listed football and table tennis as two prominent events that would feature in the sports meet.

According to Mrs. Onyeocha, four teams from Aggah, Mgbede, Okwuzi and Mmahu would compete for the trophy in the football event while 12 players, two each from six communities, would slug it out in the table tennis contest. She said that a novelty match between the first and second teams of Egbema All Stars popularly known as Retired Boys will hold on Thursday while the grand finale of the competitions comes up on Saturday. Trophies and other fantastic prizes would be given to winners and participants.

She quoted the promoter of the fiesta, Rev. Omaegbu, as saying that it is being organised to galvanise and encourage Egbema youths to put their talents and potentials to good use, foster love and to promote unity in the area.

The statement added that a birthday get-together will hold in Port Harcourt Monday while activities marking the birthday celebrations would be concluded with a thanksgiving service at KIM Cathedral in Aggah on Sunday, July 31.

“The birthday celebration is a mark of gratitude and humble appreciation to God who made it possible for Rev. Omaegbu to witness his 60th birthday despite all odds,” the statement added. Omaegbu, popularly known as OJC, was born on July 25, 1956 in Aggah. An Economist, he is a successful businessman, a Minister of God and a prominent leader in Egbema.
