 The  Acting President of Okija Town Union (OTU) Sir (Barrister) Fred Obiejesi, has expressed gratitude to members for their overwhelming endorsement, calling it a sign of trust and a mandate to serve.

Speaking during a general meeting held at the union secretariat on Sunday, August 9, 2026, he thanked members of OTU made up of 7 villages in Okija for standing with him at the time of trials and tribulations.

"I do not take this endorsement for granted," he said. "Your support tells me you believe we can do more together. My commitment is to justify that confidence by putting the interest of our town first."

He acknowledged the challenges facing the union, including community projects, youth engagement, and welfare programs that have stalled. According to him, progress will only come if divisions are set aside.

"This is not the time for factions. It is the time for unity," he urged. "We have projects to facilitate, we have warring factions to bring back, and our detractors are watching to see if we can speak with one voice. Let us move the union forward, not backward."

The new President outlined three immediate priorities: transparency in union finances, completion of ongoing projects, and stronger collaboration with town stakeholders both at home and in the diaspora.

Members who sent congratulatory members applauded the legal luminary for his pious leadership qualities, consistency, confidence, resilience and never-say-die disposition.

They recalled that at a period OTU was at the crossroads following the demise of former President Honourable Philip Obi, Barr. Obiejesi's sterling attributes steadied the ship of the union.

While pledging their total support, they called on all members to rally behind the new leadership, and give the new President and his executive members a level-playing ground to achieve their set objectives.

The meeting ended with prayers for peace and development in the town, and a vote of confidence passed by members present.
