Everton midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has offers from Ligue 1, Bundesliga and even Premier League clubs with the potential of playing in the UEFA Champions League next season, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Iwobi has one year left on his Everton contract, but it was revealed by journalist Osasu Obayiuwana that the Nigerian is not committing his future to the club yet despite their extension offers, as he hopes to ensure the safety of the club in the Premier League before moving to his preferred destination.
The Nigerian joined Everton in 2019 for £35m on a five-year deal.
“When Alex left Arsenal for Everton, he was sold to enable the club buy players like Pepe. And Marco Silva, then coach at Everton, promised him the starting shirt that he wasn’t getting under Unai Emery. He got an improved contract as well, which was good,” Obayiuwana quoted a source close to the player.
Iwobi had since played under six more managers at the club and established himself as a mainstay, especially under Frank Lampard. With his performances over the last two seasons, the Nigerian is now attracting offers from different clubs and he has made the champions league his prime target.
“Offers have been coming from Ligue 1 clubs and from the Bundesliga, as well as some Premier League clubs. Nothing is off the table.”
With Everton currently battling to survive relegation again in the Premier League, Iwobi’s move would be devoid of drama if the club stays up, but the Toffees will be forced to sell him if they are unable to beat the drop.
“The ideal thing would be for Everton to stay up in the Premier League so that he can leave on a good, happy note. But if they don’t stay up, Alex will definitely have to be sold, as he’s one of their top wage earners and his salary won’t be sustainable in the EFL.”
In four seasons at Godison Park, Iwobi had made 132 appearances, scoring eight goals and assisting 15 in all competitions.
