Ayo Saka’s 39th minute goal was all his new club Rivers United needed to beat visiting Nasarawa United in Port Harcourt as the second round of the NPFL resumed after a break.
Rivers United thus avenged a 1-0 loss at Nasarawa United on the final day of the first round.
They are now 11th on the table with 27 points from 20 matches, while Nasarawa with the same points and better goals’ difference are ninth.
Rivers United were reduced to 10 men, when skipper Festus Austine was sent off.
They host FUS Rabat of Morocco on Wednesday in continuation of the CAF Confederation Cup Group A after they lost their opening game 3-1 at Club Africain of Tunisia.
