Iwobi reaches milestone, Eze scores

By Daily Sports Nigeria on January 1, 2023

Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi reached a milestone of 200 Premier League appearances with 100 in the colours of Everton as Frank Lampard’s men came from behind to force a 1-1 draw with reigning champions Manchester City.

Erling Haaland’s goal proved the difference at halftime but Demarai Gray equalised with a brilliant individual goal in the 64th minute.

At Craven Cottage, Samuel Edozie and Joe Aribo started a Premier League game together for Southampton as they were beaten 2-1 by Fulham, for whom Tosin Adarabioyo started on the bench.

Southampton’s first change in the 67th minute saw Aribo replaced, while Edozie went off injured after 76 minutes. Tosin came off the bench in the seventh minute of stoppage time.

At the Vitality Stadium, Spanish-born Nigerian defensive midfielder David Ozoh received his first call-up for a Premier League game but was an unused substitute as Crystal Palace earned a 2-0 win against Bournemouth.

There were starts for Nigerian Federation targets Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze, as well as 2017 FIFA U20 World Cup Golden Ball winner Dominic Solanke.

Jordan Ayew nodded the Eagles in front in the 19th minute, assisted by Olise, and the France U21 international bagged his second assist of the game when he set up Eze at minute 36.

Eze was in action for 76 minutes, Olise was substituted with two minutes left on the clock and Solanke went the full 90 despite picking up a caution midway through the second half.
