President Super Eagles Supporters’ Club (SESC), Prince Vincent Okumagba expressed optimism over Super Falcons resurgence despite the set back which befell the team in their first game against the Bayana Bayana of South Africa at the ongoing Women Africa Cup of Nations football tournament in Morocco. To prove him right the Super Falcons secured their first win against Botswana, placing them second behind already qualified South Africa, this is good news for us.
He added that his confidence stems from the fact that the Nigerian side would plug all the necessary loop holes that led to that loss. He however called on the technical crew and the players to ensure they continue to be upbeat and see Monday’s loss as stepping stone for greater heights as has just started afresh and face squarely their next opponents taking it from there as the Nigerians regain her leadership role in the continent’s Women football, he insists.
He regrets that ace player Asisat Oshoala has been ruled out of the competition calling on other players to brace up and strictly fit into the big shoe of Oshoala, reminding them of her contributions in the team believes that the bench is depth enough to fill the gap adequately, he says.
“I know it won’t be easy but Super Falcons as experienced as the team has been would overcome these threats steering them on the face and I am too sure that as defending champions the Nigerians won’t give up easily. Though, Oshoala’s absence would be felt but nothing must stop the Nigerians from surging on in the tournament,” Okumagba stressed.
The SESC supremo believes that the era of the game being dominated by certain group of countries is over for good. He pointed out further that such portrays great turn around for the continent’s women football which will sooner than later be felt grippingly in the World.
“This developing scenario in Africa is a welcome one. It is worth noting that countries have not only rebranded or braced up decisively to fortify their teams for optimal performance in championships all geared towards developing the game to catch up with the rest of the world especially US, Germany, Japan etc. Nigeria he informs is not losing sight of it,” he added.
The frontline football enthusiast called on Nigerians to rally round the Nigerian team as the game has turned out to favour the Falcons in their match against Botswana saying that, if the team puts its house in order and win the remaining matches nothing stops her from going all the way to the finals and even retain the trophy it won in last Women football summit.
Okumagba further posited that his group is solidly behind the Super Falcons quest to make and bring greater glory gamely to the country. He however called all well meaning football supporters and sponsors to come up with packages to motivate the girls. He called on the players to ensure that they shake off whatever negative efforts currently running through their minds and nerves now urging them to go all out and take on their next opponents frontally.
“Let me remind Super Falcons players that they have the capacity to be on top of their games. No complacency anymore. He recalled that after all, this is not the first time the team has come off even more difficult situations than what is on ground and Nigerians are not expecting less from them to truly turn this situation around for victory in our favour,” Okumagba pleads.
The SESC boss commends the efforts of the NFF on its spirited and usual way of encouraging our teams and Super Falcons team has not been an exception all geared towards bringing the team back to winning ways. He also thumbed up the presence of the Chairperson of Nigeria Women Football League, Aisha Falode whose closeness to the girls over these years would further give them the much needed impetus to go in for their next crucial revival matches, he recalls.
The Falcons will play against Burundi on Sunday as they round up the group phase.
