If there is no last minutes change of mind, the plan by the Federal Government to probe the shocking ouster of Nigeria by Ghana in World Cup 2022 to be held in November in Qatar is still hot on the front burner.
To that effect, our usual insider source said that the Presidency is still not happy on the circumstances with which the Super Eagles was booted out of this year’s World Cup summit in Qatar via away goal aggregate after the Black Stars held the homers to a 1-1 draw in the second match leg played inside the main bowl of MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.
The source exclusively released this information to Daily Sports in confidence added that though there has been intensive pressure on those
believed to have the ears of the power blocks in Aso Rock to drop the said probe but as at the time of filing in this report the urge to find out what led to this shocking exit was still gaining steady tempo ground amongst them in the Presidency.
“Except otherwise, the Federal Government is still keen on probing the circumstances that led to Nigeria’s poor show that led to her inability to qualify for the World Cup in United Arab Emirates (UAE) in November. Let me further tell you categorically that this issue still worries the authorities in Aso Rock Villa. It painful that the thoughts and plans the World Cup participation just crashed when there was upbeat in the land after good showing in the first leg in Baba Yara Stadium, Kumasi, Ghana. There must be something behind the poor outing in a game where everything was provided for legally. Except there is a sudden change of mind the probe will go ahead,” the source further reveals.
The usual credible source added that though the Federal Government recently gave the NFF the go ahead to employ foreign coach such directive it was gathered will not be affected as that aspect will not form terms of reference for the probe option being looked at.
“If the probe is finalized it should not be seen as a witch hunt against anybody or group, rather it would be aimed at ensuring that things are put in right perspective for the future. However, there has been unbearable pressure from some group close to the Presidency for the idea of the probed to be dropped. If this last minutes move fail it then meant that the panel will be constituted sooner than later,” it was emphatically gathered.
