G’Bissau vs NGR: Iwobi assures fans of victory in return leg

By Daily Sports Nigeria on March 25, 2023

Following Nigeria’s shocking 1-0 defeat to Guinea-Bissau in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match played at the Moshood Abiola National on Friday, Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi, has assured fans of a positive result in the return leg.

Mama Balde’s 29th-minute goal condemned the Super Eagles to a 0-1 defeat and took Guinea Bissau’s Wild Dogs top of their 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualification table with seven points in Group A.

Everton star Iwobi is, however, optimistic that the players will give a good account of themselves and Eagles will ensure they win the match.

“Next game, we’re going to do our best to get the result and make the country proud,” Iwobi told The PUNCH.

“Like what the coach said, we created many chances and had opportunities to score in the first leg, but it’s one of those games that we did not score.

“Am sure if we play them again luck could be on our side.

“First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result, we are going to look at the game and see what we need to do to improve.

“We want the fans to stick by us and support us because we give 100% not just for ourselves but also for our nation.

“We know we’re privileged to wear the shirt, there are a lot of people who want to be in this position.”

Nigeria with six points will be aiming for a win to reclaim the lead in Group A when they travel to Bissau in the return fixture on Monday, March 27.
