Umar Sadiq, Super Eagles striker for UD Almeria, was at his best as he gave a spectacular assist before scoring a wonderful header to lead Almeria to a commanding 3-1 victory against Fuenlabrada on Friday.
On the half-hour mark, Sadiq showed tenacity by winning the ball back from an opponent and then making a wonderful run before sending a delicious lob for Arnau Puigmal to hammer home the opener.
In a swift incursion forward, the visitors equalised five minutes later. But in the 66th minute, Sadiq restored the Rojiblancos’ lead, and Dyego Sousa added gloss to the scoreline 12 minutes later.
Sadiq’s goal, however, went down in history, as it made the Nigerian forward Almeria’s first-ever player to score in four straight league games.
Since returning from the TotalEnergies 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, the 25-year-old has been in fine form, scoring against Ibiza, Malaga, and Mirandes (twice) before his second-half score against Fuenlabrada.
Sadiq’s recent goal for Almeria is his 36th in all competitions, putting him in the club’s top eight all-time scorers list. But, the former AS Roma striker is still 21 goals behind Raul Sánchez, the club’s all-time leading scorer with 57 goals.
In second place with 48 goals is Argentine forward Leonardo Ulloa, who is followed by Spaniards José Ortiz at 47 and Soriano at 46 goals apiece and ex-Nigeria international Kalu Uche and his 45 goals.
