Super Eagles, Falcons November 17 Date with History!

By Daily Sports on November 12, 2018

November 17, Super Eagles and the Super Falcons will be on parade for supremacy and it is believed that the players used as replacements would exploit this opportunity to announce themselves into the mainstream of the squad thereby stamping their feet firmly in two different African soils- Ghana and South Africa.

While the Super Falcons would be fighting hard to consolidate their lead on the group table for 2019 Women Championship It won in Cameroun two years ago, it will no doubt be a two-front battle of wits and brawns as supremacy and superiority would reign as each country tries to outwit each other.

In Johannesburg, South Africa, the Super Eagles already on top of the group’s table will go all out to tackle their host Bafana Bafana headlong in the game that would permanently place a seal on the group and separate who leads clearly. Honestly, it won’t be just one of those games between both sides but one whose stakes are high.

South Africa at home would go all out to have it double over their visitors, a trend that has not happened since it rejoined African football. Super Eagles, though lost some of its best legs to injuries would prove that its current form and rating in the world and continental football is no fluke as it faces the uphill task ahead.  Enyimba safe gloves, Theophilus Afelokhai would also like to use the chance of Uzoho’s absence in the team’s line up to book a place.

The Enyimba of Aba goalie has shown enough capacity in the season especially the kind of form he displayed in Morocco against Raja in their second leg CAF Confederations Cup. He has seen action that would not make him panic against the Bafana Bafana players but his experience and claim in the goal would be a plus and source of the consolidation bid by the Rohr-led Eagles.

He is one surprised replacement joining the likes of Ikechukwu Ezenwa and Daniel Akpeyi already more established in the Eagles squad. Afelokhai is fearless and calculated in goal; one main feature that played him up as the first choice in Enyimba International FC over others.  Consequently, it is not an overstatement to say that his future in the senior national team is in his hands and November 17 provides such lifetime opportunity.

The fact however is that the technical hand of the Nigerian side, Gernot Rohr has made what different football pundits from authentic quarters described in the impending game as suicide one whereby the Eagles would not let go gamely. The Nigerian side has shown lots of promises of a championship team and would like to strengthen such, right in South Africa in the crucial second tie en route Cameroun 2019 AFCON.

It will be one game to behold as the buildup has reached almost feverish height, few days ahead of the now or never encounter. Rohr would be handy to roll out water tight match plan that would give Bafana Bafana side some real nightmare in front of their fans.  As Germany would be plotting for the outright downfall of his host so also would the homers arrowhead on the bench, plan effective counter-offensive if only to save his job and prestige of his team in front of his teeming fans.

It is already staring the technical crew of the South African side in the face that anything outside outright win to chalk up the three blooded point would look like the humiliation of his team right at home. Bafana Bafana did same to the Super Eagles at home during the first leg against the prediction of analysts thereby changing the traditional tide of time. It is against the above inflammable background therefore that vigilance and determination will be the watchword in this crucial return leg.

South Africa against Nigeria is one match that would attract much interest because way back, football rivalry has existed between both countries. Many factors would come into play in this match that will change or allow the status quo to remain after the 90 minutes of football exchanges.

It is not strange that both countries may have its fair share of injuries that has taken its toll on key players in the lineup. It won’t be a dull moment as the explosiveness of the team would keep the fans on edge.

The side that would be able to make fewer mistakes and hold firm whatever pressure against the run of play would smile last. Such a team would prove as the fittest. One prays that Eagles would put every foot right in the now or never battle of the Titans if the god of football must smile on the giant West African country. Rohr and his boys again have a date with history.

In Ghana, Super Falcons would be on parade to defend the trophy it won. It will be a high tension competition that would further mark water shade in the history of Falcons football trajectory. As the championship begins, the Ghana choice as the venue would obviously pay off. The Nigerians as defending Champs would face more fight against the other teams. Nigeria is in group B with Cameroun, Kenya and Zambia. However, with the kind of players in the team, it won’t be that easy to just wish the Super Falcons away. Having won the competition more than any team in the champ would provide some measure of impetus and confidence for the side.

The Nigeria Falcons would be marked as the target by the other teams. The players and their crew are aware that conspiracy theory against it may not be ruled out. For this African Women Championship, the technical crew must have come to terms with the realities on the ground. Nigeria must be red alert as both games are important.

Meanwhile, our social media platforms would remain open for questions and feedbacks. We keep our fingers crossed as we urge you dear readers posted. We must keep shooting hard till next week!!
