NFF Planning More American-based Friendlies

By Daily sports on July 6, 2021

Following Nigeria’s 4-0 defeat at the hands of Mexico in a friendly played in Los Angeles on Sunday morning, the country’s football federation (NFF) has revealed plans for more American-based matches.

NFF president Amaju Pinnick has stated that negotiations are ongoing for the locally-based ‘B Team’ Super Eagles (which played against Mexico) to come up against Ghana, Cameroon and Canada, likely in the FIFA international break in October.

“This is the launchpad we are providing for you to showcase your talents,” Pinnick is quoted by Soccernet.

“This team (Super Eagles B) is our pride, and we will keep you and monitor you because you are the next big thing in Nigerian football.

“In October, we will be flying the team to Baltimore for friendly games against Ghana possibly, Cameroon and Canada, maybe. We will sort that out in the coming weeks.

“We will tidy up all the documentation. You will be playing at the 73,000 capacity M&T Bank Stadium.”

The ‘A Team’ Super Eagles, featuring European-based players, will next be in action in September when they face Liberia (home) and Cape Verde Islands (away) in their first two group stage qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup. (African Football)
