2025 Georgian Cup holds in Kaduna

By Daily Sports Nigeria on October 15, 2025

The Georgian Cup, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious polo trophies, will be contested at the Kaduna Polo Club this weekend as part of the annual Kaduna International Polo tournament.

Sponsored by First Bank of Nigeria Limited, the competition will feature top-rated polo professionals from across the globe, including four-goaler Bello Buba, Bashir Dantata, Abdulmalik Gbadamosi, and Argentine imports Tolito Ocampo and Silvestre Donovan.

Mohammed Babangida’s Kaduna El-Amin, the tournament’s most successful team, is expected to mount a strong challenge for another title. Babangida has won the Georgian Cup a record 16 times—15 times with El-Amin and once with Kaduna Kakuri.

Other contenders include Adamu Attah’s Fifth Chukka, former winners Kaduna Kangimi, 2023 champions, and Hadi Sirika’s Abuja Rubicon.

The weeklong tournament will also feature the Emir of Katsina Cup (medium goal), Imani Cup (low goal), and other selected low cups.

Donated by FirstBank in 1918, the Georgian Cup is the oldest and most respected polo trophy in West Africa and one of the longest-running sports sponsorships in the world.
