Nasarawa Amazons FC came from a goal down to secure a 2-1 home victory over visiting Abia Angels FC.
The defeat inflicted on the Abia clubside was Nasarawa Angeles’s second victory in the ongoing league season.
The 2020/2021 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Matchday 6 was played at the Lafia Township Stadium on Wednesday.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that in spite of starting the game offensively, the home side conceded a goal in the 16th minute courtesy of a long range free kick outside the 18 yard box by Margareth Ademulegun of Abia Angels.
The home side continued on the offensive, but failed to level the scores before the end of the first half, having wasted several goal scoring chances.
NAN reports that in the second half, however, Nasarawa Amazons were more clinical upfront and drew level after an offensive effort led to an own goal by Abia Angels’ Anita Ucheogbu in the 47th minute.
With scores home level at 1-1 Nasarawa Amazons did not relent, but continued to mount pressure on the defence of Abia Angels, and were recorded by a late tap in the penalty box by Adejoke Ejalonibu in 86th minute.
Speaking after the encounter, Christopher Danjuma, Head Coach of Nasarawa Amazons, said he was relieved that his side has started to record victories after a poor start in the new season.
“It is an awesome feeling to finally be on a winning side. It is a good feeling.
“I am satisfied with our performance and i feel scoring two goals in a match could mean that we could have scored up to five goals if we had capitalised on our numerous chances.
“Our expectation in future fixtures is to build on this fine performance and see that we climb back to the top and be that team others fear to play,” he said. (NAN)
