Former Flying Eagles’ Coach, John Obuh, has advised national team gaffer, Gernot Rohr, to stick to his Zambian winning squad saying that there is no need to effect changes in the team that has started on a sound footing.
The Abia State born football tactician, who won the Africa Youth Championship for the country in 2011, said he has always been an advocate of continuity in football and every other endeavour of our national life.
The Kwara United coach, who is enjoying the end of the season break in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) said there was no need to change the team except for one or two positions even as he advised Gernot Rohr to ensure that areas where the technical crew discovered lapses during the team’s last game are corrected before the World Cup Qualifying game in Uyo next month.
“Well my take on our World Cup Qualifying game against Algeria next month is that I would want the Super Eagles’ Coach, Gernot Rohr to maintain the squad that prosecuted the game in Ndola. There shouldn’t be changes in the team except where it is necessary to effect changes in one or two positions,” Obuh stated.
“I have always been an advocate of continuity because I believe these unnecessary changes in teams and technical crew don’t help the cause of the team or in any other aspect of our national life.
“We need to be consistent and ensue that whatever shortcomings that were discovered during our last game are corrected before the game in Uyo,” Obuh said.
“I am of the view that, if we are able to block the loopholes that we may have discovered during the game in Ndola and at the same time maintain the same set of players that prosecuted the match in Zambia, we should be able to get a good result in Uyo.
“It may not be an easy game because with what transpired after the first set of matches in our group, it is likely that every team will be aiming to upset the apple cart by fighting to beat us and we shouldn’t give them the privilege of doing so.
“Like I said earlier, if we maintain the same set of players that prosecuted the game in Zambia and at the same time block the loopholes that were discovered during that first game in Ndola, I am pretty sure we are likely to come out with good result.
“Of course, there is a saying that ‘you don’t change a winning team except when it is necessary to do so. If at all there is need to make any changes in the team, it shouldn’t be more than one or two and we will be good to go,” Obuh said.
