Players Union writes clubs, requests copies of players’ contracts

The National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANP) Players Union has written to all professional football clubs in the country, requesting them to make available copies of players’ contracts.

In the letter addressed to Club General/Team Managers, the Players Union gave April 25, 2016 as the deadline for compliance.

NANPF General Secretary, Comrade Austin Popo said in the letter dated April 11, 2016, a copy of which is in the possession of Daily Sports:

“Following numerous complaints from professional Footballers in majority of the Clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) the Nigeria National League (NNL) and the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) of not having copies of their professional football contract as stipulated in the relevant FIFA and league regulations, we kindly request you to make available to your players copies of their contract, if you have not done so.

“You will agree and acknowledge the fact that the players’ contract is one of most vital aspects of Professional Football, and the player must be aware and informed of its details to guide against the cases of contractual instability in League Football.

“We therefore count on your support by ensuring the players get copies of their contracts before the 25th of April 2016 for Clubs in the NPFL and 7th of  May 2016 for Clubs in the NNL

“We thank you for your usual cooperation and understanding.”
