Former coach Christian Martin has tipped Galatasaray target Can Uzun to form a potent partnership with Victor Osimhen if the Turkish champions succeed in signing the attacking midfielder from Eintracht Frankfurt, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Galatasaray have been pursuing Uzun as they look to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season, with negotiations with Frankfurt still ongoing.
Martin believes a move to Rams Park could accelerate the development of the young Turkish international, particularly because his creative qualities could complement Osimhen’s pace, physicality and movement in attack.
“Can has a superior ability to play in the gaps between the opponent’s midfield and defence. A player with his vision and final-pass ability can be highly effective alongside a dynamic and physically strong striker who makes sharp attacking runs, just like Victor Osimhen.
“Can’s ability to draw defenders towards him and deliver accurate passes would complement a strong centre-forward extraordinarily well. The two could form a very dangerous partnership, with one creating opportunities for the other to exploit,” Martin told Türkiye Gazetesi.
While their rivals have been busy strengthening their squads, Galatasaray have made a relatively slow start to the transfer window, with the club reportedly completing only the loan signing of Lesley Ugochukwu so far.
Uzun has emerged as one of their primary targets, with the Turkish champions having pursued the Frankfurt midfielder for several months.
Recent reports in the Turkish media suggest Galatasaray have made progress in their efforts to sign the player, although Frankfurt’s valuation remains a major obstacle.
Frankfurt have reportedly opened negotiations at around €60m, while Galatasaray are understood to be seeking a lower fee. Reports have suggested that the Turkish club could structure a deal worth €35m plus a further €5m in bonuses.
Uzun’s potential arrival would give Galatasaray another creative option around Osimhen, with the Nigeria striker expected to remain a central figure in the club’s plans for the new campaign.
The prospect of the pair combining in attack has also added to the excitement surrounding Galatasaray’s pursuit of the 20-year-old.
