The Anambra State Football Association has commended the Female Football Kiddies camp 2020 initiative of ex-Falcons star, Ambassador Maureen Mmadu, saying it will support the project to the latter.
The project is aimed at training, nurturing and mentoring future female soccer stars from the state that will represent her as well as the nation is for girls between the age of 10-15 years.
The state FA at a meeting held in Awka described the project as one very close to its heart, saying that Mmadu has lifted a burden off the shoulders of the association.
The meeting which was put in place to review the progress of the project discussed among other things, how to grow female football in the State, especially among the teenagers, who have been neglected so long.
The association resolved to give the queen of the round leather game all the necessary support needed to make the project a reference point in the girl-child growth.
In her speech, Mmadu assured the Committee of her determination to make the project a bi-annual event, for Easter and December holidays.
She said: “Giving back to the society is the main inspiration for me. I played to the best of my ability and Onitsha residents gave me so much encouragement, so I am just saying thank you.
On her part, a member of the female footfall committee in the state FA, Lady Cordelia Akanna, hailed the soccer icon for her zeal and commitment.
She said: “We shall be behind you to the heights. It is on record that the Anambra Football Kiddies’ Camp, from day one, has enjoyed the blessing of the Care Taker Committee, before now.
“It is also the very first time a player is giving girl kids from the age of 10 -15, a chance to develop their skills in Nigeria.”
Recall that the former Caretaker Committee of the Association led by Dr Emeka Okeke had crowned Mmadu the soccer ambassador in the state.
