What Are Plans For Post-Covid-19 Reconstruction of Football, Sports In Nigeria?

By Daily Sports on April 27, 2020

Last week, this page extensively treated NFF/Rohr face-off, the immediate and remote causes. This columnist after narrating and balancing the arguments from analysts and pundits, came up with a verdict that Gernot Rohr should be confirmed if such contract paper has reached him. I am glad to announce he's long confirmed he’s looking into it.

That has been settled and the waiting game begins. The truth is that Nigeria as a country that assembles her Geologists on the eve of an earthquake has sadly held that ugly toga tightly despite many devastating past memories. It is the way and manner we are, because older men that are supposed to be watching from the sidelines are rather the ones in every sphere of major decision taking and making, thereby further crippling upward and steady movement of Nigerians.

It is the dilemma of this nonsense, big for nothing nation in all facets. Needless to recap the inept leadership that have been the lot of this country in every material particular. However, this regime has witnessed the worst because of its pretence instincts. It is all motion, no movement, roundly, and other parts of this government are not left out. For instance, the NFF we know is running a closed shop administration or mafia like talk shop.

Nigeria is over due to cry for but that is for people that feel they still have confidence here. I won’t, because it is not worth it no matter the angle you may be looking at it from. Buhari and his APC have messed up this country and taken many steps backwards aside fro huge dripping foreign and local debts which is ominous.

Let me be honest with you that as it is presently, many football federations in other nations are already brainstorming on the way forward after covid19 era but here, you need not be told what would be going on in the minds of the so called football chiefs.

You will be shocked that the 500,000 dollars FIFA recently granted to national federations, believe it or not, where the body and mind of the planless NFF right now would be is on how to share the multimillion Naira into the private pockets of the bigwigs and nothing else. Already, their hatchet men in the media houses are strategising on how to cleverly do their usual yeoman’s job.

Let me say here that many federations across the globe would decisively bounce back after this scourge but ours here, would start post Covid-19 planning when it’s too late, and such has been the bane of this sleeping giant called Nigeria. We have this unfortunate culture of learning nothing and forgetting nothing.

Nigerian sports like the larger sector would suffer deadly blow after this because of lack of proactiveness on the part of those that ought to. One is tired of always drawing attention to this because of the deliberate feigning, deaf and dumb stance of the authorities.

There are so many avoidable lapses in our polity, be it in football or other sectors of the country. Much laxity and what have you. Some parts of the country are doing what they feel like doing and using it to infect other parts of the country.

Unfortunately, shame is nothing in the country presently because the government in power stamped such by ensuring that those from certain part of the country are untouchable and rightly put, above the law. In short, they own Nigeria and they don’t hide it.

Lord have mercy as we continue to pray and hope that the ‘Messiah ‘ would come when especially NFF election would be held, despite the already ‘anointed’ man waiting earnestly on the wings to merely go through what would be termed election.

Nigeria, football objective watchers know, is at the cross roads and It is worrisome that the usual manipulations would rear its naughty head that would enthrone extension of this pretending media induced board, led by Amaju Pinnick.

We are all witnesses to how football administrators all over the World are planning to ensure they won’t be caught pants down after this Covid-19 pandemic but it will serve as cogent reasons and escape route for abysmal performance for Nigerian teams, be it national or clubs sides in the continental duties next term or season.

Despite knocks and more, on the writer by NFF and its nationwide agents, both colleagues and sundry, the truth however would remain constant.
